a. Apply this layer style to the Cone layers

b. Make a new layer, fill it with Black and position it on the bottom of the layers.

a. Make a new layer, position it below all the "metal" layer. Next take the Gradient Tool (G) and do a plain, Black and White (Hit D to reset your colors to black and white) Gradient from the top to the bottom.

b. Next go to Filter>Render>Difference Clouds

c. Go to Image> Adjustments>Levels... or just hit Ctrl + L adjust it to the settings above.

d. Finally go to Image>Adjustments>Invert or hit Ctrl + I

a. Since this is a animation with multiple lightning strikes, repeat the steps above. This is what my layers palette looked like at this point:

b. Now we make the lightning strike that has the name in it.

c. Make the text you want, and center it in the image.

d. Next go to Filter>Blur>Gaussian Blur...

use these settings:

when it asks if you wan't to rasterize the layer, click "ok".

e. After you blur the layer, copy the text layer. Next make a layer and fill it with black, then position it under one of the text layers. Next select the text layer and hit Ctrl + E to merge the layers.

f. Hold ctrl and click on the text layer, that you didn't merge to load its selection. Next select the merged layer and go to Select>Modify>Contract...

Contract by 2 or 3 pixels.

g. After you contract the selection, go to Select>Inverse

youre selection should now look like this:

a. Making sure your'e on the layer with the merged black layer and the blurred text. Make a gradient like in the image below:

b. Next go to Select>Deselect.

c. Finally go to Filter>Render>Difference Clouds

d. Go to Image>Adjustments>Levels... or hit Ctrl + L

use these settings:

e. Then go to Image>Adjustments>Invert or hit Ctrl + I
